Diebold
November 7th, 2000: Glasses held high, George W. Bush celebrates his victory with a champagne toast in the company of his closest colleagues. The re-count in the state of Florida nudged Bush's electoral votes to 271, opposed to his opponent Al Gore, who came up short at 266 votes. What was to become the nearest win in a presidential race in United States history put the Republican Party's eighteenth representative inside the White House. It would only be after Bush took office that an investigation would expose a voting machine company, Diebold INC., of undergoing mass scrutiny for their possible assistance in helping to rig the election.
Was the re-count the reason George W. won the election? Did Diebold INC. have anything to do with the outcome of the polls?
Nobody knows… nor will they ever find out.
