Middle East, modern day: Afsana lives in the local orphanage, singing songs of sadness for that is all she knows. As war wages throughout her country, the young girl plays with her only doll--a rugged and mangy collection of cloth stitched for her years ago. It is the only keepsake she has to remember her mother by, as both of her parents were killed in a bombing the summer before. One solemn day, her sanctuary explodes in a ball of fire. She struggles to escape, but is engulfed in the tragedy. Just then, Charles, an American soldier, rushes in to find Afsana seemingly lifeless. He labors tirelessly to revive her and when she finally awakens, she asks him if she will ever know peace.
Is this man her savior? Or another pawn in the crude campaign?
Nobody knows... nor will they ever find out.
